Program Overview

‌Rennes School of Business is located two hours southwest of Paris in the lovely city of Rennes which has a population of around 350,000 people. Rennes is a beautiful city with many options for housing. Students have the option to live with a host family, in a city center apartment, or in the on-campus residence hall. The campus is expanding to four buildings, adjacent to a park, and is quite beautiful. This is an exchange program, which means UNI students will pay UNI undergraduate resident tuition and fees to study abroad at this school for the semester or academic year. Rennes School of Business also offers a summer term option. The Wilson College of Business partners with Rennes to offer a 4 week long AI Program. Refer to the "Summer Session" tab for more information on this option.

Location

Rennes is known as one of the best places to live among France's biggest cities. It is located about two hours by train from Paris, London, and Brussels, and it is only 40 minutes from the Atlantic coast, making it the gateway to the Brittany (Bretagne) region. Of the 350,000 people in the area, the student population of 60,000 gives the city a youthful and dynamic atmosphere. It now manages the network set up by the World Health Organization and is one of the top cities in France for technology and research. The city also boasts a vast pedestrian area full of shops and offers plenty of leisure, sport, and art activities.

Academics

There are several business courses offered each semester, though courses available vary from Fall to Spring semester. Students should take classes with a code ending in "E" unless they are fluent in French. UNI students have the option to take a variety of Undergraduate Exchange Student Modules (Level 4), and optional French language & Culture courses. UNI students will take courses from Undergraduate Transfer Credit Program (UGTC), Level 4, taught in English, and should specify this on their Rennes application form.  For more information about this program, please see here.

It is necessary to take at least four courses during the semester, as most equal 3 US credits each, in order to transfer back a minimum of 12 US credits. 30 ECTS credits are usually equivalent to 15 US credits.

Housing & Meals

The Well’Come team is a student organization that is here to welcome the students to help them integrate into the school and life at Rennes. They team will pick up UNI students from Rennes station or the airport and help them settle into their home. This group helps organize trips to destinations such as Mont St. Michel, Paris and more! There is a program called "buddies" where you can meet new people and attend campus events with fellow French students.

Housing

Rennes School of Business helps international students to find accommodation in Rennes. The rooms are generally furnished and are equipped with essentials for the length of the program.

The university provides a range of resources to support students in their accommodation search. Below is a listing of housing partners:

  • Students are welcome to browse the available offers and contact the partners directly if they find accommodation that interests them.
  • There is an on-campus residence hall called Constellation. The Constellation residence is open to all students. However, priority is generally given to students coming for a long-term stay. We still encourage exchange students to submit an application. Cap Études will review applications and allocate rooms based on availability and housing capacity at the time of the assessment.
  • Many housing options are available here, including shared apartments, private student residences, and more. Students should make sure to complete their profile in full so that they can access all available listings.

Meals

Rennes advises to budget between 350 - 500€ per month.  Most students cook for themselves, however students may eat at the University restaurant (approximately 22 Euros for 10 tickets).

Health & Wellbeing

Health Preparation for Studying Abroad

Studying abroad is an exciting opportunity, but it also requires careful planning—especially when it comes to your health. To ensure a safe and successful experience, we strongly recommend the following steps:

1. Talk to Your Healthcare Provider Early
At the time you are selecting your study abroad program, schedule an appointment with your primary care provider or specialist to discuss:

  • Medication Legality: Some prescription and over-the-counter medications that are legal in the U.S. may be restricted or illegal in other countries. Your provider can help you determine if your medications are permitted in your destination and suggest alternatives if needed.
  • Chronic Conditions or Health Concerns: Discuss how your health needs might be affected by travel, climate, time zone changes, or access to care abroad.
  • Mental Health Support: If you are currently receiving mental health care, talk with your provider about how to maintain support while abroad.

Accessibility and Study Abroad: Plan Ahead for a Smooth Experience

If you are a student with a disability or accessibility concern—whether related to mobility, learning, mental health, chronic health conditions, or other needs—we encourage you to connect with Student Accessibility Services (SAS) as early as possible, ideally during the program selection process. Early communication allows our team to understand your specific needs and preferences and explore available accommodations in your host country.

Accessibility resources and standards can vary widely by country, so advance planning is essential to help us advocate for your needs and create a positive, inclusive experience abroad.

Reach out to Student Accessibility Services to start a conversation. The sooner we know, the more we can do to support you.
