As a UNI student studying abroad, there are many types of programs from which you can choose in order to find the best fit for you. Below outlines some of the main features and difference between these program types. If you are still unsure what is the right fit for you, take the quiz at the bottom of the page!

Semester and Academic year programs

  • Typically exchange (pay UNI tuition)
  • Courses taken abroad are to satisfy graduation requirements: major, minor, LAC, and/or elective courses. 
  • All grades earned for the courses are computed into the official UNI GPA.
  • Students are responsible for housing, food, transportation, and general costs of living.
  • This program type is geared for students seeking more independence.

Summer School programs

  • Students study at a summer school overseas, typically on exchange (pay UNI tuition)
  • Courses offered abroad are major, minor, LAC, and/or elective courses. 
  • All grades earned for the courses are computed into the official UNI GPA.
  • Students are responsible for housing, food, transportation, and general costs of living.
  • This program type is geared for students seeking more independence. 

Short-term programs 

  • Students travel with UNI Faculty/Staff and a group of 10-25 students. 
  • 2-8 weeks in length and are offered winter break, spring break, and summer session.
  • For direct UNI credit, course(s) offering depends on program (pay UNI tuition). 
  • Built with high-level of structure and organized excursions.
  • The SAC arranges group housing, excursions, and some meals. 

Insternships, Research, and Work Abroad Options 

  • Students have the option to gain professional internship/work experience in the field of your choice. 
  • The SAC will work with them to identify the opportunities abroad on a case-by-case basis. We meet to define goals and present different options and ideas. 
  • The SAC works with partner univerisites and provider companies to find help students find placement opportunities.
